This month, we'll sew in labels to our completed projects and continue working on afghans for the living room. Please bring ALL completed projects this week so that we can begin to assemble the kits.

Remember, each afghan piece (1 piece per kit; 4 kits per finished blanket) will be due Friday, August 17th. Patterns & Materials

There are no new projects this month, but this is the time for completing any incomplete projects and finishing complete projects with customized labels!

Ina will bring all the items we need - labels, needles, thread, as well as some expert advice for how to secure the labels to the projects so that they are not in the way and do not fall off!

July and August Activities

The dog days of summer are upon us, so we will be taking advantage of the cool interior of the World Financial Center to do our upcoming on-site projects.

Join us in July to sew in labels to all of the incredible projects we have created thus far in 2012 - almost TWO HUNDRED different projects to donate to the deserving families who have moved into their new homes in Ocean Hill - Brownsville, Brooklyn!

You should also continue to work on your afghan projects. The knitting project kits have all been taken, but we have a number of crocheting kits remaining for those of you who are speedy crocheters and still want to take something home to work on before our August 17th meeting.

As a reminder, ALL afghan kits are DUE at the beginning of our August 17th meeting, when we will sew up the pieces into complete blankets as part of our presentation to the Habitat for Humanity families.

Remember: if you are stuck, please contact Ina at 201.910.0027 or via e-mail. The only successful project is a completed project!

In The Loop Meeting This Friday. New Projects!

We're excited to see you this Friday to continue working on washroom projects and have a few new kits with patterns to create bath mats!

Friday, April 20, 2012
12 - 2pm
World Financial Center Courtyard, next to Starbucks

Notes from Ina
  • There are still a number of kits from January through March that need to be made and returned. We hope to have your continued enthusiastic support to finish those up so we can confidently move on to the new projects on the list. Ashley will be calling those unreturned projects to collect all outstanding projects. Please bring yours this Friday!
  • It is already April and we are moving along to new projects.
  • We have a granny square crochet bath mat and a knitted doily bath mat. Lovely oversized pattern and altogether a quick project each!
  • The crochet bath mat uses three skeins of the Lion Brand Cotton Ease with nary any leftovers. We will double up the yarn.
  • You need a size J (6.0 mm crochet hook). I will check closely that we get the desired gauge and feel. I will have a finished sample on hand.
  • The knitted doily bath mat is worked with a triple strand and a size 15 (10.0 mm) needle. You can use a 24” circular needle but we will work in rows! There will be a finished sample on hand.
  • The yarn amount for the knitted bath mat is leaving us quite a bit of leftovers. We will use those for the next round of projects, so please bring your leftover yarn in May.
  • I will work closely with you to make sure things “look” and turn out right.
  • You know that I can be reached via email if questions arise: tantesophie@me.com or on my mobile # 1.201.910.0027

Pattern Note for Crocheted Market Bag

Hello to all!

The week has flown by and I promised Ashley some notes for you to make the final outcome of our projects a success.

• We had a number of finished projects returned last week and ran into a common problem on the crochet market tote! Not enough yarn!
• What will we do? Wiggle the pattern a bit and make it work with what we have! Please use good judgement to see how far the first skein gets you. You might have to shorten the number of rounds before the handles or even rework the handles. I'd say get through about a third of the second skein and plan on working the handles. How to know that amount ... a little kitchen scale can help ... there was actually a nice lesson on that matter on the knitter's review this week ... www.knittersreview.com! Always packed with good information worth reading up on.
• We want to be able to make the tote with the amount of yarn we have. If in doubt feel free to bring it in for review next time.
• The felted mitten potholders are worked with a single strand! We will felt all those pieces together at the end if you would rather not attempt that yourself. It is fun though and you will see that felting covers a multitude of little irregularities and is most forgiving!
• And yes, for the crochet potholders you are NOT supposed to have a gazillion little ends to put away ... work with the tails from both ends of the skein.
• If I forgot anything ... please feel free to contact me via email (tantesophie@me.com) or call me 201.910.0027 ... I will gladly help from afar.
• In the meantime ... be well ... do good work ... and keep in touch.

Kindest regards, Ina
